Charity Challenge | Lisbon Marathon

Borja Junoy joined Associação Salvador to raise funds during the Lisbon Marathon, taking place on October 6th.

Borja Junoy will run the Lisbon Marathon and wants to raise awareness about the challenges that people with motor disabilities face in their daily lives. 

Statement

My name is Borja Junoy and I am 19 years old. I am currently a student at UCL in London. I grew up between London and Spain until I was 14, when I moved to Portugal and learned the language. Since then, my family has worked closely with the Associação Salvador in organizing events, many of which I have participated in. From the beginning, I loved the association’s principles and have always wanted to contribute and help as well.

For me, running a marathon has always been on my list of goals, as it has always seemed like an incredible achievement, both physically and, more importantly, mentally. Additionally, I wanted to run for a charitable cause, and the first one that came to mind was Associação Salvador. It’s like taking the concept of the Walkathon they’ve organized in recent years and pushing it even further! I want to run for them, but also for everyone who is part of the association. During my long training sessions, I think of them. People with motor disabilities face enormous challenges every day and I believe that by testing myself in the marathon, I’ll gain just a fraction of understanding of what they go through. I hope the funds we manage to raise can truly make a difference!

How does it work?

Lisbon Marathon is 42 km long. The goal of this initiative is to sponsor Borja’s run by sponsoring the kilometers he covers through a donation to the Salvador Association as follows:

What projects does Associação Salvador develop?

Through 9 different projects in the areas of knowledge, integration and awareness, we promote the inclusion of people with physical disabilities, improving their quality of life and enhancing their talents and raising awareness of equal opportunities.

We operate directly in Social Responses and Support, by assisting people in various situations related to accessing the rights and services they need, and providing direct support in urgent and exceptional situations that are not addressed by other entities.

We integrate professionals with physical disabilities, giving them greater autonomy and independence. We develop and hold sports activities and meetings that contribute to a significant increase in the quality of life.

We reach out to students and teachers, and with our campaigns for Road Safety, we raise awareness with hundreds of drivers every year.

We also lobby and exert political pressure for compliance with the law and the improvement of accessibility in Portugal.

We dream of a world in which everyone can have an active participation in society through an active, healthy lifestyle, and ensure that any person with physical disabilities can fully enjoy their life and rights.

– Invests in Advocacy to influence public policies and procedures for systemic change. Each year, various issues are actively addressed to alleviate constraints in the lives of people with motor disabilities and improve their quality of life.
